Why Invisible Battles Deserves a Place on This Website

When you browse through my website, you will find all kinds of things. Beauty, personal stories, motherhood, ebooks, creativity and things that make me happy.
But you will also find something else here: Invisible Battles.

At first glance, that might seem like a strange combination. A website where one moment I am enthusiastically writing about beauty, and the next I am talking about migraines, FND, chronic pain, fatigue or mental health.

But to me, that combination makes perfect sense.

Because one does not exclude the other.

What you see is only a small part

You can see someone smiling in a photo without knowing how much pain they are in at that moment.

You can see someone wearing make-up, with their hair done and a nice outfit on, and assume they are doing well, while that same person may have had to gather every bit of energy they had just to get out of bed.

You can see someone working, creating, being a mother, enjoying a day out or enthusiastically talking about something they love, without seeing what happens afterwards when the front door closes again.

That is exactly what can make invisible conditions so difficult.

They are there, even when you cannot always see them.

My life is about more than my conditions

At the same time, with Invisible Battles, I absolutely do not want to suggest that my conditions define who I am.

I am not just someone with FND.
I am not just someone who has migraines.
I am not just someone who lives with pain, fatigue or mental health challenges.

I am also a mother. A partner. A creator. A writer. Someone who can get ridiculously excited about a new lipstick, spend hours working on her website, get far too enthusiastic about a new idea and laugh just as hard at complete nonsense.

All of those things can exist at the same time.

Maybe that is even one of the most important reasons why Invisible Battles belongs among all the other topics on this website .

Because in real life, it does not fit neatly into a separate box either.

A good day does not erase a bad one

That is something I think is incredibly important to show.

When I have a good day, it does not mean my symptoms have disappeared. And when I have a bad day, it does not mean my entire life suddenly revolves around my conditions.

Sometimes I can do an incredible amount.

Sometimes something small takes far more energy than anyone looking from the outside would ever expect.

And sometimes, when I wake up in the morning, I simply do not know which of those two it is going to be that day.

Both can exist side by side.

Why I want to keep talking about it

I do not share these things because I want sympathy.

I share them because I know how lonely something can feel when nobody can see it.

There are so many people carrying things every single day that the outside world knows nothing about. Physically, mentally or both. People who constantly have to adapt, keep going, recover, try again or accept that something simply is not possible today.

Maybe someone will recognise themselves in one of my stories.

Maybe reading it will help someone understand a partner, friend, colleague or family member just a little better.

Or maybe it simply makes someone think:

Hey. Apparently, I am not the only one.

For me, that alone makes sharing it worthwhile.

Invisible Battles is part of my story

This is not a website about being ill.

But it would not truly be my website if I only showed the beautiful, easy and picture-perfect parts of life.

I want to be able to write about a beauty product that makes me happy and, on another day, about a body that refuses to cooperate.

About personal growth and about the days when growth simply means accepting where you are today.

About beautiful moments with my family and about the energy it can sometimes take to be fully present for them.

Not because everything has to be heavy.

But because there should be room for all of it.

That is why Invisible Battles deserves a place on this website. Not because it is my whole story, but because it is part of my story too.

And maybe that is exactly what I want to show here: there is so much more behind every person than what you can see from the outside. 💗
